Abstract:

Early poems, short stories, "experimental dramas," miscellaneous correspondence with Edna Webster and publishers, and high school memorabilia (diploma). Several of the literary manuscripts were written for Edna Webster or Linda Webster. Most are undated but are known to have been written in Eugene, Oregon in the mid-1950s. The materials in this collection were given to Edna Webster by Brautigan.

Richard Gary Brautigan was an American writer (novelist, poet). Born Tacoma, Washington, January 30 1935. Died Bolinas, California, around September 14, 1984 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound (the exact date of his death is unknown; his body was discovered October 25, 1984).
Edna Webster (1915-2000) was a close personal friend and "surrogate mother" of Richard Brautigan. Her son, Peter, was Brautigan's best friend during the time these materials were written. Her daughter, Linda, was Brautigan's "first love."
